Snow Day

I love taking photos in the snow, but living in the South I don't get too many opportunities to enjoy winter weather. It's been about two years since the Atlanta area had any snow, so even though it was wet and windy outside today, I didn't want to miss a chance to enjoy a rare snow day.

I think what I love most about snow is that it can completely transform a familiar landscape. Everything has such a different look and feel when it's covered in snow, and it's always nice to see ordinary sights with new eyes.

Here are a few of my favorites from today.

Today was a pretty quiet day for birds. I didn't hear or see much activity while I was out, except for this Carolina wren hopping around in the pine trees by the lake. I tracked it for a while but wasn't fast enough to get more than two usable shots.

Too bad I didn't have my camera when we walked Niles this morning. We passed a beautiful red-shouldered hawk who was hunkering down on a branch only a few feet above our heads!
